The Spectator makes a fascinating claim in its Christmas issue:

It may not feel like it, but 2012 has been the greatest year in the history of the world. That sounds like an extravagant claim, but it is borne out by evidence. Never has there been less hunger, less disease or more prosperity.

    Thanks for this, Chris! I like it so much I’m bunging it on Facebook. In a smaller way, you could say the same about Israel. The last time Israel was truly under threat of destruction was in the Yom Kippur War; since then, the country has spent 40 years fretfully worrying how to manage victory.
